Renting A Villa In Santorini

The island of Santorini is part of the Cyclades group of islands in the Aegean Sea. The island was formed by a volcano and still has a caldera in the centre which is filled with water. Santorini is named after Saint Irene and this beautiful island is a very popular holiday destination. In 1956 there was a major earthquake which destroyed many of the villages on the island but the expansion of tourism in Greece has helped to remake the economy and increase the population of the island.

Greece is one the most beautiful parts of Europe and a great way to enjoy a holiday in Santorini is to rent a Greek villa. There are several villages on the island where you can rent a villa and many of the properties are set in olive or orange and lemon groves. The beaches on Santorini are formed with volcanic ash and rocks so if you are looking for sand this is not the place to be. However, what you do get are stunning landscapes, friendly people and luxury villas where you can make the most of your annual holiday. Greek villas are usually rented complete with a swimming pool so the children will not be disappointed with the beach. Air conditioning is also a standard in most villas and many also have a shaded terrace or balcony to protect you from the heat of the midday sun.

Most Greek villas to rent are designed with a Mediterranean feel with blue and white being the predominant colour scheme. In the garden you usually get a barbecue and swing or hammock for relaxing in the afternoons when most Greeks take a siesta. There are lots of villas with sea views and many can be in remote locations so don’t forget to think about hiring a car to get around the island. One of the best parts of a holiday is savouring new foods and Greek food is simple and fresh. Fish is a large part of the Greek diet so you can always find some fresh fish or seafood which is often sold from a truck parked on the road.

Renting a Greek villa on Santorini will give you freedom, peace and quiet as well as the chance to meet and make friends with the locals. Once you have become a friend of a Greek you will always be welcome and many people return every year to this hospitable and beautiful island.
